MOORPARK : 1st City-Owned Bus Is Placed in Service
A new city bus is wheeling its way through the streets of Moorpark.
The city’s first bus, the $57,000 Champion coach with air-conditioning and room for two wheelchair passengers, began picking up riders this week.
In the past the city spent about $96,000 a year for a driver and bus provided by the Antelope Valley Bus service. The company will still be paid to provide maintenance and a driver, but the new arrangement will be about $19,000 a year cheaper.
“It’s clearly a better deal for the city,” said Mayor Paul Lawrason, who rode the bus on Monday as part of an inaugural ride.
Service is still limited, but covers the major shopping and business centers, as well as city parks, Moorpark College, City Hall and Arroyo Vista Recreation Center.
The bus will run Monday through Friday from 7:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The fare is 75 cents with children under 5 riding free. Monthly passes and 10-trip booklets can be purchased at City Hall.
