SIMI VALLEY : Architects to Unveil Police Station Plans

Architects of Simi Valley’s new police station are set to unveil their plans at a public meeting Thursday.

The architects do not yet have a rendering of the outside of the building, but they have developed plans that show how much space will be devoted to each room in the building. The plans also indicate which units will have offices in various parts of the building, said Assistant City Manager Don Penman, who is coordinating the project for the city.

The 50,000-square-foot building, to be built at Tapo Canyon Road and Alamo Street, will include underground parking, Penman said. It will replace a station that police say is overcrowded and too old.

Police officials, City Manager Mike Sedell, Mayor Greg Stratton and Mayor Pro Tem Bill Davis will review the plans at the meeting scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Thursday at City Hall, Penman said.

Penman said he believes the architects are succeeding so far in their efforts to meet the particular challenges of designing a police station.

“You have to balance the security needs with having an aesthetically pleasing building that will be inviting to the public,” he said.
