Roller-Blader, 14, Hit by Car, Killed in Residential Area
THOUSAND OAKS — A 14-year-old girl died after being hit by a car as she roller-bladed in a residential neighborhood Thursday night, authorities said.
The accident occurred shortly before 8:30 p.m. in the 1500 block of La Granada Drive. The road was closed to traffic between El Cerrito and Rosario drives as Ventura County sheriff’s deputies investigated the accident.
“This is absolutely terrifying to us,” said neighbor Sarah Nelson, who lives half a block from the accident scene and whose children bicycle on La Granada Drive.
Nelson said the posted speed limit is 25 m.p.h., but motorists often speed on the street near the Moorpark Freeway.
“People abuse our street miserably,” she said.
Investigators did not release the girl’s name and provided few details immediately after the accident.
Investigators believe the girl “was staying with relatives in Thousand Oaks,” Ventura County Sheriff’s Senior Deputy Larry Logan said. He said he did not know where the girl lived.
Paramedics tried unsuccessfully to resuscitate the girl with CPR as her terrified friends looked on, witnesses said.
She was pronounced dead at Los Robles Regional Medical Center.
