Twins Mike and Bob Bryan of Camarillo upset top-seeded Justin Gimelstob of Essex Falls, N.J., and Mike Russell of Bloomfield Hills, Mich., 7-5, 6-4, in front of 4,000 fans Thursday to advance to the boys’ 18-and-under doubles championship match in the U.S. Tennis Assn. Junior National tournament in Kalamazoo, Mich.

The Bryans, seeded third, will play second-seeded Ryan Wolters of San Jose and Kevin Kim of Fullerton Saturday in the final.

If they win, the Bryans will likely gain their third No. 1 national ranking in doubles. Their previous No. 1 rankings came in 1989, in the 12-and-under division, and in 1991, in the 14-and-under.

Track and Field

Ramon Serratos, the 1995 Southern California champion in the 3,000-meter steeplechase for College of the Canyons, has transferred to Glendale and will run cross-country for the Vaqueros this fall.

Serratos looks forward to a more-competitive training environment.

“I like the area up at COC, but it’s kind of hard to train when you don’t really have someone to push you in practice,” he said. “There’s a lot more competition at Glendale and I think that will help me.”

Serratos, third in the steeplechase in this year’s State championships, will join a Glendale team that finished third in the 1994 State cross-country final.
