Sluggish Splash Kicked Around by Sacramento
The Splash, playing its fourth consecutive game on the road, was routed by the Sacramento Knights, 10-2, in a Continental Indoor Soccer League game Sunday night in front of 7,279 at the ARCO Arena in Sacramento.
The Splash (9-8) was coming off a 7-6 victory over San Jose Saturday. The Splash rallied from four-goal deficit against San Jose.
But Sunday night against Sacramento, the Splash appeared tired, falling behind, 3-0, at the half. Sacramento (12-2) scored five times in the third quarter and opened an 8-0 lead. The loss ended the Splash’s two-game winning streak.
Iain Fraser scored both his goals in the third quarter and Marciano Boumann scored twice in the fourth quarter for Sacramento, which is 6-1 at home. Eight other players each had one goal.
Doug Neely and Jose Vasquez scored four-quarter goals for the Splash, which was outshot, 27-22. The Splash scored once in four power-play attempts.
The Splash, in third place in the Southern Division, plays its next six games at home, starting with Houston on Saturday.
Sacramento leads the Western Division by 4 1/2 games over Las Vegas and San Jose.
