Not All ‘60s Activists Let Go of Their Political, Social Ideals
Re “Power to the People,” (Aug. 4): Sure, 1960-’70 activists who garnered media attention have moved on their lives, many remaining committed to peace and social justice, some not. But beyond the “where-are-they-now” style of the Times’ article, we have achieved significant power.
Overwhelmingly, as a UC Santa Barbara study from a few years ago showed, rank-and-file activists from our generation have remained consistent. While some of us are not political activists today, we are social workers and health-care professionals; we are poverty lawyers and clergy; we are journalists and people concerned.
We’re not the Contractors on America.
