Habitat for Humanity of Ventura County is planning a charity auction and dinner to raise money to build a house in Thousand Oaks and fund other Habitat projects.

The reception and silent auction will begin at 7 p.m. Dec. 1.

Among the projects that will benefit from the event is a 1,250-square-foot house to be built in Thousand Oaks for Mitch and Debbie Schrader and their three children.

The Schrader family was chosen out of more than 50 that applied, based on the family’s need, credit history and willingness to work with Habitat, said Executive Director Virgil Nelson.

“They have to be willing to invest 500 hours of labor in the Habitat process,” he said. The house will cost no more than $60,000.

Grading on the house begins sometime next month and the house should be complete within six months, he said.

For more information on the auction, which is scheduled to be held at the Westlake Hyatt in Westlake Village, call 818-991-7033.
