The Man With One Red Shoe

(PG) Tom Hanks is the man in this uneven 1985 remake of the much better French comedy “The Tall Blond Man With One Black Shoe.” Hanks plays an innocent guy (and a poor dresser) who becomes the target of a CIA assassination. Directed by Stan Dragoti and also starring Dabney Coleman. Screens Friday at the Cypress Senior Citizen Center, 9031 Grindlay St., Cypress. FREE. (714) 229-6776.

Broken Blossoms

(NR) Not the greatest of D.W. Griffith’s films but one of his most successful. It’s an affecting, tenderly constructed tale of a Chinese man who spends his life protecting a young girl from her brutal father. Richard Barthelmess, done up in heavy makeup, plays the man, and Lillian Gish is the object of his love, in this 1919 silent picture. Screens Tuesday at 7 p.m. as the first offering in the Chapman Film Classics series at Chapman University’s Argyros Forum, Room 208, 333 N. Glassell St. FREE. (714) 744-7018.
