OUTLOOK

Bolsa Grande returns only 10 lettermen and nine starters, but for the first time in a while, there are some positive signs. The Matadors might actually have some size with Schmidt, who has never played football, and Del Rosario on the offensive and defensive lines. Graves said his team speed and strength also has improved since last year, but he figures he’s still a year or two away from challenging for a Garden Grove League title or even making a serious playoff run. “We’re improving,” Graves said. “We’ll be scrappy and unpredictable. We’ll be more competitive than last year. The key to the season will be staying injury-free because of our lack of quality depth.” Price, younger brother of last year’s quarterback, David Price, played safety last year but Graves said he is ready for the starting quarterback spot. His top receiver could be Marin, a baseball player who has never played football.
