Calvin Klein Ad

Showing kids in sexually suggestive poses is unconscionable. I disagree with Richard Martin (Opinion, Sept. 3), when he suggest that we are uncomfortable with the Calvin Klein ad’s inference of a lower class as fashion trend-setting. I think the ad’s depiction of a girl who appears to be about 13 in heavy eye makeup, pants pulled far below her navel, standing next to a boy of the same age, who has a major portion of one hip entirely exposed and has his underwear sticking out, legitimately worries any responsible adult.

I don’t call that fashion. I call that voyeurism. It is our collective responsibility to ensure that the next generation of adults experiences a childhood. Children being pressured into wearing suggestive modes of dress by advertising campaigns is, by my judgment, socially irresponsible.
