Trinidad N. Portillo; 51-Year County Resident

Trinidad N. Portillo, a resident of Ventura County for 51 years, died Friday at St. John’s Medical Center in Oxnard after a stroke. He was 74.

Portillo came to Ventura from Mexico as a young man. He worked for the Saticoy Lemon Assn. for 44 years. His daughter, Lupe Portillo, said he began as a picker and then worked in the packinghouses.

He retired at 62, spending time with his nine grandchildren and listening to soccer and baseball games on the radio.

Portillo is survived by six children: Christina Ahumada of San Diego, John Portillo of San Antonio, Lupe Portillo of Oxnard, Christopher Portillo of Oxnard, Barbara Acosta of Ventura and Baltazar Portillo of San Jose; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be today from 3 to 9 p.m. at Pierce Brothers Stetler Mortuary, Santa Paula. A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. The funeral Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ventura, with interment to follow at Santa Paula Cemetery.
