Retired Officer Faces Gun Charges
A retired 25-year LAPD veteran was charged Wednesday with negligence and assault with a deadly weapon after firing a gun inside his home the previous evening, authorities said.
Thomas Keith Convey, 49, surrendered without incident to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies Tuesday night after a two-hour standoff at his home in the 29400 block of Quail Run Drive in Agoura Hills. Following a psychiatric evaluation, Convey was charged Wednesday with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon and one count of gross negligent discharge of a weapon, said Sandi Gibbons, a spokeswoman for the district attorney’s office.
He will be arraigned today in Malibu Municipal Court and remained in jail Wednesday afternoon in lieu of $30,000 bail, Gibbons said.
Deputies arrived at Convey’s home about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, after he fired several shots inside the house. Deputies saw Convey lying on the floor of his home. He then fired more shots, deputies said.
Convey eventually surrendered about 8:30 p.m. after a special weapons team was summoned.
