COLLEGE FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : USC : Cornerback Kelly Still Questionable
Injured cornerback Brian Kelly is listed as questionable for the Arizona game because of the ankle he sprained against Houston last week. He was in shorts and limping in practice this week. Freshman Daylon McCutcheon would start in Kelly’s spot.
Freshman kicker Adam Abrams was nursing a quadriceps pull this week, so freshman wide receiver Mike Bastianelli was asked to kick in practice. He put several balls in the end zone. *
USC’s offense has been so productive in its first two games that it has shut All-American punter John Stonehouse out of the national rankings. Stonehouse has had six punts in two games and is averaging 44.5 yards. To be included in NCAA rankings, punters must average at least 3.6 punts a game. His 44.1-yard average last year was eighth best in the country and the best by a Trojan since Des Koch’s 44.6 in 1953.

Center Jeremy Hogue, on the difference between quarterbacks Brad Otton and Kyle Wachholtz:
“Kyle tries a lot to get us fired up verbally. He’ll say something like, ‘We’re takin’ it to ‘em . . . right now, this play.’ Brad is more cool. He has less to say, but you can feel his confidence.”
