COLLEGE FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : UCLA : Jordan Poised to Pass Stokes

All-American receiver Kevin Jordan needs three catches in Saturday’s game against Washington State to become the Bruins’ career leader.

With 152 catches, the fifth-year senior trails only J.J. Stokes, who left UCLA last season having caught 154 passes.

“It’s not going to change me,” Jordan said the record. “I guess it’s a big thing. I’ll be part of history. With all the great receivers they’ve had at UCLA, it’ll be an honor to be at the top.”

Jordan doesn’t think the change will faze Stokes.

“He’s a first-round draft choice with the 49ers, and I’m still at UCLA,” Jordan said.

Stokes still has the edge over Jordan in receiving yards, 2,469-2,209, and in touchdowns, 28-9.

The Bruins’ top 10 receivers have all played in the ‘80s and ‘90s, the Nos. 3, 4 and 5 receivers being Sean LaChapelle, Mike Sherrard and Mike Farr.

Defensive end Vae Tata, who was knocked out of last week’s game against Oregon at the start of the third quarter with a concussion, is expected to play Saturday. . . . Also expected back in the lineup is right guard Matt Soenksen, who sat out last week’s game because of a concussion.
