Maybe you’ve been thinking about broadening your musical perspective, but you’re not ready to commit to a full “night at the opera.” Cal State Northridge and the Opera Buffs may have something for you. A program of opera highlights, kind of a “Greatest Hits” package, will be presented Sunday afternoon on the Northridge campus.

The CSUN music department has turned out many fine singers through the years, the most famous being soprano Carol Vaness, who has performed with the Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Opera and many others around the world.

The Opera Buffs is a nonprofit group that supports the local opera scene with funding, scholarships and awards.

For this Sunday, professor David W. Scott has prepared a program that includes excerpts from “The Elixir of Love,” “Lucia Di Lammermoor” and “Le Fille Du Regiment” by Donizetti; “Tosca” and “Turandot” by Puccini; “Romeo and Juliet” by Gounod and “Don Carlos” by Verdi.

Among those performing will be singers Jessica Siena, Patricia Grey, Ryan Parr and Judith Scott. The accompanists will be Maro Donabedian, Suzanne Recer and Carol Roberts.
