Irven (Irv) Spence, 86, an animator at MGM and Hanna-Barbera Cartoons. William Hanna, who later founded Hanna-Barbera Cartoons, and Spence worked as artists on their high school newspaper. At MGM, Spence worked with Hanna and Joe Barbera on the Academy Award-winning “Tom and Jerry” cartoons. He later joined Hanna-Barbera after MGM closed its animation department, working on such classic cartoons as “The Flintstones,” “The Jetsons,” “Scooby-Doo” and “Yogi Bear.” On Sept. 21 in Dallas.
