CITY SECTION ROUNDUP : Carpenter Helps Taft Run Past Chancellors
Donald Carpenter rushed for 235 yards in 25 carries and scored three second-half touchdowns as Taft High broke loose for a 36-20 victory over Chatsworth in a Northwest Valley Conference opener at Taft.
With Taft clinging to a 16-14 lead in the third quarter, Carpenter rushed for 60 yards in a 64-yard scoring drive, capping it with a two-yard run.
Carpenter, a sophomore, later added touchdown runs of three and 49 yards for Taft (2-1-1).
“I’m a second-half player,” Carpenter said. “My nervousness goes away at halftime.”
Chatsworth (1-3) took advantage of two mistakes by the Taft special teams to rally from a 16-0 first-quarter deficit.
Ron Atkins rushed for 90 yards in 20 carries and scored on runs of six and seven yards.
