THE PREPS : FOOTBALL ROUNDUP
Kennedy 17, Valencia 7--The Irish scored two second-quarter touchdowns but the victory at Valencia High was costly.
Brad Sabol, who caught one of the touchdown passes, left the game late in the first half and could be lost for at least two games, Coach Mitch Olson said.
“He was sent to the hospital,” said Olson after Sabol suffered a leg injury while making a tackle on a successful Valencia fourth-down conversion.
Sabol scored the first Irish touchdown on a 27-yard pass from Tom Haas with 10:43 left in the second quarter.
Kennedy (3-1) increased its lead to 14-0 when Garrett Sabol caught a 28-yard touchdown pass with 6:53 left in the first half.
Joe Paloney made a 31-yard field goal to cap a drive that started on the Irish one-yard line after an interception by Garrett Sabol.
Valencia (0-4) scored with four seconds left in the game when Eric Young completed a four-yard touchdown pass to Mark Swanson.
Valencia outgained the Irish, 246-196, but five major penalties and two interceptions hampered the Tigers.
Garrett Sabol caught eight of the 12 passes Haas completed.
“We took what we they gave us,” Olson said.
