City Panel Calls for Hearings on Problem of Stray Dog Packs
The Los Angeles City Council’s Public Safety Committee on Monday called for public hearings next month to discuss the problem of roaming packs of stray dogs in South-Central Los Angeles.
City officials debated the issue Monday after a weekend article in The Times detailed an explosion in the population of strays in the area.
“We are going to put on the agenda specifically the issue of wild roving packs of dogs,” said Councilwoman Laura Chick, who heads the committee. She urged officials from the Department of Animal Regulation to prepare “some good, creative answers.”
The South-Central shelter has only enough room to take in the sickest of the animals--about 16,000 last year.
