Boy, 10, Saves Riders of Runaway School Bus
Associated Press
ST. LOUIS — Larry Champagne III’s classmates chanted, “Larry saved our lives. Larry saved our lives,” after the 10-year-old took the wheel of a runaway school bus from a driver who had collapsed from an apparent stroke.
The fifth-grader stomped on the brake and brought the bus to a stop Tuesday after it had crashed into two guardrails and was hit by a pickup truck.
The bus was taking about 20 students to school when the driver, Ernestine Blackman, was stricken.
