Cancellation Rate High for On-Line Services: Computer users frequently cancel their subscriptions and do not appear to be loyal to any single on-line service, a study has found. The study also said many users simply sign up for the free monthlong trials offered by the major on-line services and then cancel, in a practice known as churning. The study, based on interviews with 10,000 on-line users at homes across the United States, was released by Inteco Corp., a Norwalk, Conn.-based technology research firm. Based on research completed in August, more than 6.2 million personal computer users have tried and canceled subscriptions to the leading services: America Online, Prodigy, CompuServe, Genie and Delphi, the study found. The research said nearly 5.6 million households were subscribing to at least one service in August.
