Littlerock’s Top Rusher Suspended for League Opener
Littlerock High’s Lafayette Bailey, the Golden League’s leading rusher, has been suspended for the Lobos’ league opener Friday against Quartz Hill.
Bailey, a senior, was ejected by game officials from last week’s game against Valencia for unsportsmanlike conduct. Under state rules, a player ejected by officials must sit out the following game.
Against Valencia, he had gained 133 yards in only three carries and has 658 yards in 76 carries this season. He also leads the league in rushing touchdowns with eight.
Basketball
Dan Donovan has resigned as St. Genevieve High boys’ basketball coach and accepted a job as an assistant for the Valley College men’s basketball team.
Donovan is credited with rebuilding a Valiant program that once was considered the doormat of the Santa Fe League. St. Genevieve had a record of 35-52 and made three playoff appearances in Donovan’s four seasons as coach.
A replacement has not been hired. Athletic Director John Yakel said he will accept applications through Friday. Donovan will continue to teach physical education and health at St. Genevieve.
Baseball
A school investigation has cleared Taft High Coach Rich McKeon of allegations that he unfairly treated a former player.
The allegations were brought by the mother of former Taft player Mike Rolbin, who graduated last spring.
