Top-seeded Monique Kalkman of the Netherlands, won her semifinal match of the women’s singles at the U.S. Open Wheelchair Tennis Championships at the Racquet Club of Irvine.
Kalkman beat fourth-seeded Maakie Smit of the Netherlands, 6-3, 6-3. Kalkman plays Nancy Olson in today’s final.
Olson, of Daytona Beach, Fla., beat No. 3 Chantal Vandieendonck of the Netherlands, 1-6, 7-5, 6-4.
Steve Welch of Arlington, Tex., the men’s top-seeded player, beat No. 8 Scott Douglas of Pelham, Ala., 6-4, 6-1. No. 2 David Hall of Australia, No. 3 Randy Snow of Heath, Tex., and No. 5 Jim Black of Oceanside also won.
Play starts today at 9 and admission is free.
