ROADSHOW: The Los Angeles City Council is taking its act on the road today. . . . And the road leads to Pierce College in Woodland Hills, where the council will hold a meeting at 10 a.m. The legislative roadshow is the idea of Valley Councilwoman Laura Chick. It’s the first time since 1990 that the council has ventured out of City Hall en masse. More traveling is planned.

GOLD STANDARD: Sunland resident Elizabeth Petta struck gold, on Friday the 13th, no less. . . . The Sunland teacher opened her door to a couple of Alaska miners and her travel agent. They presented Petta with a 1 1/2-ounce gold nugget on a chain. She won it in a drawing entered last summer while vacationing in Alaska. Miner “Yukon Yonda” said the 96%-pure gold nugget is worth about $2,000, but Petta said listed gold prices put its value at $600.

WHICH WAY L.A.?: We know the valleys don’t make People magazine as often as Beverly Hills 90210 . . . the place or the show. But does that mean the popular mag shouldn’t know what’s where? The Oct. 23 edition said actress Melissa Gilbert’s baby was born in the Thousand Oaks section of Los Angeles. Another story about gospel singer Andrae Crouch describes Pacoima as a town outside Los Angeles. Hey, people! Pacoima is part of Los Angeles, while Thousand Oaks is in Ventura County.

ADVANCED GEOGRAPHY: Despite what the tickets say, those planning to attend the Assistance League of Southern California’s annual house and garden tour this month do not have to leave town. The tickets say the tour will be held “on the shore of Lake Tahoe,” which straddles Northern California and Nevada. Make that Toluca Lake.
