Consulate to Accept Donations for Victims of Mexico Quake
The Mexican Consulate in Los Angeles has announced the opening of a bank account to receive donations for those affected by last week’s 7.6 magnitude earthquake in the Mexican states of Colima and Jalisco.
The purpose of the account is to collect funds that will be used toward rebuilding efforts in those states, said Miguel Escobar Valdez, press attache for the Consulate.
“The biggest problem right now is rebuilding housing, so what they need is money to purchase materials and start construction,” said Valdez. He added that the governors of Colima and Jalisco were consulted and both agreed this would be the most efficient and necessary aid. Fund management will be done in coordination with both state governments, which will account for expenditures.
Account number 50019640-01, called Ayuda Colima-Jalisco (Aid Colima-Jalisco), is being handled by California Commerce Bank in two offices: a Los Angeles branch located at 811 Wilshire Blvd., 90017, and a City of Commerce branch at 5438 E. Whittier Blvd., 90022. Cash or checks may be deposited by mail or in person.
