ORANGE COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL / PREP EXTRA : Sonora’s Brass Scores Four Touchdowns Against La Habra
LA HABRA — What Sonora lacks in gold, it makes up for in brass.
Shawn Brass, that is.
Brass pounded the Highlanders’ defense for four touchdowns and gained 184 yards in 25 carries Friday night in the Raiders’ 28-6 Freeway League victory over La Habra. He scored on runs three, two, 29 and 10 yards.
The senior running back had 131 yards in 13 carries and two scores in the third quarter.
Sonora got off to a quick start when Lalo Lara intercepted a pass by John Marshall on the first play of the game. It was the first of two interceptions for Lara.
Kevin Rodriguez passed 31 yards to Tom Ringl to the La Habra three-yard line.
Brass scored from there, and Chris Rico kicked the first of his four conversions.
The Highlanders cut the deficit to 7-6 when Marshall passed to Nick Metro from one yard on fourth down in the first quarter.
Then Brass took over on the opening 68-yard, six-play drive of the third quarter. He carried all six times, eventually scoring from two yards. Brass had runs of 27 and 25 yards in the drive.
He scored on a 29-yard run with 48 seconds left in the third quarter and finished with a 10-yard run with 4:08 in the game.
