Obituaries : Elizabeth Nichols, 93; Longtime Ojai Resident

Elizabeth Nichols, a longtime Ojai resident, died Saturday at her home after a brief illness. She was 93.

Nichols, who was born Sept. 11, 1902, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, moved to Ojai 35 years ago from Arlington Heights, Ill.

She had been a high school teacher for the Iowa Unified School District for five years in the 1920s.

Nichols was a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, a charitable women’s organization, and of the First Baptist Church of Ojai. She loved roses, which she tended in her yard, as well as sewing and knitting.

She is survived by her daughters, Nancy Siewert of Litchfield, Minn., Elizabeth Kallinger of St. Paul, Minn., and Susan Benoit of Ojai; her sisters, Kathryn Hedlund of Neenah, Wis., and Margaret Colip of Arlington, Tex.; eight grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Clausen Funeral Home in Ojai.

A memorial service is to be held at 3 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church of Ojai, with the Rev. Wilbur Skeels officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Braille Foundation or the Doheny Eye Bank.

Arrangements are under the direction of Clausen Funeral Home.
