Central Los Angeles : Lights OKd for Street of Deadly Ambush
Six weeks after gang members opened fire on a car that had turned the wrong way onto a dark Cypress Park dead end, killing a 3-year-old girl, the Los Angeles City Council voted Friday to pave the roadway and install lights.
The lights on Isabel Street will be temporarily funded by the city until residents can vote on an assessment district to install permanent lighting, said Councilman Mike Hernandez.
The city also will resurface the short stretch of Isabel Street, which gained infamy Sept. 17 when gang members killed Stephanie Kuhen and wounded her 2-year-old brother and a 25-year-old man in an unprovoked attack that attracted nationwide attention.
The Los Angeles Police Department has arrested six suspects in the shooting.
