HOME BASS: First Elastica’s bassist, Annie Holland, quit the band while touring America as part of Lollapalooza ’95. Now Oasis’ bassist Scott McLeod--already a temporary replacement for band member Paul McGuigan, who is taking time off due to nervous exhaustion--has bolted in the middle of an Eastern U.S. swing without explanation.

That leaves the stunned group in disarray as it approaches key Nov. 4 and 5 concerts in London, shows that could cement Oasis’ status as, along with Blur, the essential English rock outfit of the mid-’90s. Among the speculated possibilities is that McGuigan will be able to return, but at press time no decisions had been made.
