TUSTIN : No Tricks, Just Treats on the Beat
Hoping to improve their image with children, who are often intimidated by police officers in uniform, some members of the Tustin force will be dressing up today in less solemn uniforms, including a Tweety Bird suit.
The five officers will get into costume and drive the streets of Tustin from 5 to 9 p.m., handing out Halloween candy to local youngsters.
The goal: “To show children the human side of police officers and encourage them to approach and talk to the officers,” a police spokeswoman said.
In addition to the pudgy yellow bird, officers will don costumes of Troll Doll, The Mask, Twoface and Batman.
The event is sponsored by Vons and Wellprint Inc., both on East 1st Street in Tustin.
