Number of Food Stamp Recipients Falls Again

WASHINGTON — The number of Americans collecting food stamps fell again in August, slipping below 26 million for the first time in three years, the Agriculture Department said Monday.
The department said 25.98 million Americans received food stamps in August, down from 26.04 million in July and a decrease of 1.2 million participants from August, 1994.
The number of people receiving food stamps began climbing in 1990 and peaked at 28 million in March, 1994.
