Fast Track L.A., a free eight-week job training program in Huntington Park, is accepting applications for this winter’s session. Friday is the last day to enroll.

The program is designed to help young people make the transition between school and work, said its director, Barry Stern. Students are taught math, reading and writing, as well as computer skills, he said.

A sister program of the nationally recognized Fast Track Detroit, Fast Track L.A. boasts about an 85% success rate and helps high school graduates get entry-level jobs that pay substantially more than minimum wage, its organizers say.

The course is taught in a work-like environment; students are expected to clock in and out every day and are graded on attendance and punctuality.

During the last week of the program, students are trained in resume writing and interviewing techniques, and most of them land jobs that pay at least $7 an hour, Stern said.
