Rueben Droughns rushed for 229 yards and three touchdowns to lead Anaheim to a 35-17 Orange League victory over Magnolia Friday night at Western High.

Droughns moved to within eight yards of second place on Orange County’s all-time rushing list, trailing Servite’s Derek Brown (4,878 yards).

Droughns scored on the first play from scrimmage on 65-yard run. Droughns added two more touchdown runs, both from nine yards out and added a two-point conversion and point-after kick.

Droughns will get a chance to surpass Brown next week against Valencia. He is still well short of the county record of 5,397 yards set by Valencia’s Ray Pallares from 1983 to ’85.

Anaheim quarterback Luis Gomez completed 19 of 27 passes for two touchdowns, one to wide receiver Jesus Acevedo and the other to conclude Anaheim’s scoring on an 11-yard pass to Jose Rodriguez. Anaheim is 2-7, 1-3 in league.

Magnolia’s (2-7, 0-4) two touchdowns came in the fourth quarter as Ryan Heiman recovered a bad punt snap in the end zone and quarterback Anthony Zaragosa scrambled for a 10-yard touchdown run, with 5 minutes 25 seconds left in the game.
