SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Police are searching for a white-haired man in his 60s for staging a $1,500 bank robbery, the first of two heists reported Monday in Glendale.

Police are seeking two men who walked into Glendale banks Monday morning. Each showed a threatening note to a teller and then walked out with cash.

The white-haired man robbed the Community Bank, 100 N. Brand Blvd., at 10:48 a.m., police said. The man, described as five feet, eight inches tall and weighing 160 pounds, handed a teller a note demanding money and stating that he was armed, but no weapon was seen.

The second incident was reported at 11:28 a.m. at Hancock Savings, 1155 N. Central Ave. A suspect of unknown age, described as five feet, six inches tall, weighing 180 pounds, balding and wearing a green-and-white shirt, handed a teller a note claiming he had a gun. He walked off with “a large amount of cash,” according to a police report.

Despite the similarity between the crimes and the fact that they occurred within an hour of each other, police said they did not believe they were committed by the same man.

“Based on the descriptions of the suspects, it appears they were different people, although anything is possible,” said police spokesman Chahe Keuroghelian.

The incidents represented the seventh and eighth bank robberies reported in the city this year.
