Obituaries : * Earl William Capito; Longtime Ventura Resident

Earl William Capito, a longtime Ventura resident, has died at the age of 67.

Capito, who died Tuesday, was born Aug. 28, 1928, and moved to Ventura when he was 5.

He enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard when he was 17 and served for 20 years. He also worked for the county of Ventura, 3M Corp. and the Mayo Laboratory.

Capito took great pride in his role in the Ojai Valley Community Church, where he served for many years as keeper of the keys.

He also was a lifetime member of the American Legion and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Capito is survived by his wife, Mary; two stepdaughters, Carolyn and Wanetta; a stepson, John, and four grandchildren.

Contributions may be made to Ojai Valley Community Church.

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Ojai Community Church.

Inurnment services by American Legion Post 482 and VFW Post 1679 will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Ivy Lawn Cemetery in Ventura.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Clausen Funeral Home in Ojai.
