In the early 1900s, the area that is now known as Stanton went by a different name: Benedict.

It was renamed later in the century for Philip Stanton of Seal Beach.

He helped ranchers incorporate 16 square miles of land slated in part for an Anaheim sewage operation, and the city of Stanton was born.
