PRO FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : NFC : Young Planning to Face Cowboys

The game between the Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers became a showdown again--albeit a potentially dangerous one--when 49er quarterback Steve Young said Wednesday he intends to play.

Young, who has sat out the last three games because of a badly bruised shoulder, said, “Right now, I expect to play football this Sunday. . . . This is the ballgame I want to be in.”

Expect the Cowboys to put extra pressure on Young because of the injury, which his counterpart feels is worse than advertised.

“I’m interested in knowing exactly what he did to his shoulder,” Cowboy quarterback Troy Aikman said. “I have to believe it’s more than just a bruised shoulder. I’ve had bruised, sore shoulders before, but I’ve never missed three games. I wonder if there isn’t more to it than what they are letting on.”

Young, whose team has fallen to 5-4 while the Cowboys are 8-1, said, “I guess I’ve had trouble faking my recovery.”
