SMALL FACES: The NBC program “Unsolved Mysteries” just shot a piece in Seattle about the still-open investigation of the 1993 murder of Mia Zapata, singer for the heralded band the Gits. Jan. 26 is the tentative air date. On Friday, the show will feature a segment about former Iron Butterfly member Philip Taylor Kramer, who disappeared from Los Angeles in February. . . .

Mary Lou Lord (the object of ongoing verbal volleys from Courtney Love) has signed with Sony’s Work label. She’ll release one more single on Olympia indie Kill Rock Stars early next year and then get to work on her major-label debut. . . .

Also on TV, three members of Anthrax just taped a cameo on the sitcom “News Radio,” being interviewed by a bumbling MTV-type veejay. No air date has been set yet. The group’s winter tour will conclude with a Palace show Dec. 20. . . .

De La Soul’s first album since 1993 is due early next year, featuring guest spots by Common Sense and Zhane. . . . Compton rap group Above the Law is working on its first album for Tommy Boy Records.
