OAK PARK : Developer to Provide $650,000 for Library

Ventura County supervisors approved an agreement Tuesday with a developer that will bring the county $650,000 to help build a new Oak Park library.

The developer, Oak Park Lot 22, will pay the money instead of handing over a 1.5-acre commercial parcel that had originally been dedicated to the county as part of a 1974 court settlement. The developer--known as Metropolitan Development Corp. at the time--had sued the county for trying to block it from further developing Oak Park.

Supervisor Frank Schillo, whose district includes Oak Park, said that the county needed the money for the library more than it needed the property.

Oak Park is seeking to raise $3.5 million to build a new library that would replace an existing facility now housed on the Oak Park High School campus. With the money from the developer, Oak Park will have raised $2.1 million toward its goal.
