Prosecutor Plans to Seek Judgeship
Longtime prosecutor Don Coleman on Friday will announce his candidacy for the Superior Court judgeship being vacated by retiring Judge Lawrence Storch.
Coleman, a 16-year veteran prosecutor, has been Dist. Atty. Michael D. Bradbury’s chief deputy since last year. He has garnered the endorsement of his boss as well as that of Sheriff Larry Carpenter and members of Citizens for a Safe Ventura County.
The announcement gives Coleman a head start on an election that is still a year away. Storch officially steps down in January, 1997.
Coleman plans to make the announcement at 12:15 p.m. outside the Ventura County Government Center.
Coleman received his law degree from Southwestern University School of Law in 1978 after graduating from UCLA with a bachelor’s degree in political science in 1976. He was appointed to the position of special assistant district attorney in 1989 and promoted to his current position in 1994.
He has served as a legal adviser to seven Ventura County grand juries and is in charge of the district attorney’s Child Support Division.
