Evan Voorhees Jones, 76, San Diego civic leader who founded Ace Parking Inc. A graduate of Stanford University, Jones was chief naval communications officer at Pearl Harbor during World War II. He founded Ace Parking in 1950 and guided the company’s growth to 350 locations, providing parking facilities at airports, stadiums and shopping centers in seven states. An original member of the California Coastal Commission, Jones also served as president of the National Parking Assn., the San Diego Chamber of Commerce, San Diegans Inc., the San Diego Museum of Art and the Francis Parker and Bishop’s schools. He was also active on boards such as those of Sharp Memorial Hospital and Goodwill Industries and for many years coached young people’s sports leagues. On Tuesday in Del Mar of complications of Parkinson’s disease.
