Obituaries : * Edward H. Flores; Labor Union Official

Edward H. Flores, a former Oxnard planning commissioner and labor union official, died Monday of a heart attack. He was 68.

Flores served on the Oxnard Planning Commission for 10 years until 1994. He was also an active member of the Ventura County Civil Service Commission, serving as chairman from 1991 to 1994.

He also sat on the Oxnard Boys & Girls Club board of directors, the Housing Authority and the Oxnard Advisory Commission. He was a member of the 1982-83 grand jury.

He worked as a union official and retired as business manager of Laborers Local 585 in 1983. He was also elected to the 5th District California Labor Federation and the Southern California District Council of the Laborer Executive Board.

The Oxnard native was a graduate of Oxnard High School and Ventura College. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He is survived by his wife, Alice Bustillos Flores of Oxnard; daughter Laura Flores Espinosa of Santa Paula; sons Mark Flores, Eddie Albert Flores and David Flores, all of Oxnard; sisters Elvira Salinas and Carmen Hernandez; brother Carlos Flores, and eight grandchildren.

Visitation is today from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at James A. Reardon Mortuary, Oxnard. A vigil is scheduled for 7 p.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 2511 S. C St., Oxnard. A service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, and burial will follow in the Santa Clara Catholic Cemetery.

The family asks that memorial donations be made to the Oxnard Boys & Girls Club.
