San Francisco safety Merton Hanks reportedly became upset with defensive end Alfred Williams because of miscommunication on a defensive call that led to a blown assignment during the 49ers’ victory over Miami on Monday night. Linebacker Ken Norton Jr. had to physically restrain Hanks from engaging Williams in a sideline confrontation.

“It was an intense moment, and Merton was very intense at the time, and he was very unhappy at the time,” Norton said. “But we straightened it out.”

Hanks downplayed the incident, calling it a misunderstanding.
