SEASON AT A GLANCE: Bruininga, the Highlanders’ captain, led Royal (25-4) to its 15th consecutive Marmonte League championship. He has a team-high 102 goals and is among team leaders with 42 steals and 39 assists. Last year he was all-league, All-Ventura County, All-Southern Section and All-American.

WEEK AT A GLANCE: Bruininga scored seven goals in two playoff matches, leading the Highlanders to the Division IV championship game for the first time. With the score tied, 9-9, and 33 seconds left in a semifinal last Saturday against Santa Barbara, he scored the go-ahead goal, made a key steal and scored to seal an 11-9 victory.
