Westside : Soundproofing OKd for Homes Near LAX
Residents who live near Los Angeles International Airport received some encouraging news this week: Their homes and apartments will be soundproofed under a multimillion-dollar plan approved by the airport’s Board of Commissioners.
The board on Tuesday decided to spend $10 million a year to protect homes against airplane noise by installing double-paned glass windows, extra wall insulation and other materials. The funding is reserved for residents of Westchester, Playa del Rey, El Segundo, Inglewood, South-Central Los Angeles and the unincorporated areas of Athens and Lennox.
In all, nearly 25,000 households are eligible for the soundproofing.
Funding for the project, which comes from the Los Angeles Department of Airports, will supplement money being provided by the Federal Aviation Administration.
