COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Porter Scores 19, Irvine Valley Wins First Game of Season

Irvine Valley won its first game of the season, beating San Bernardino, 78-74, in nonconference men’s basketball Wednesday at Irvine Valley.

Josh Porter had 19 points, including two three-pointers, to lead Irvine Valley (1-3). J.C. Timmons added 15 points and Tamala Griffin had 10.

San Bernardino is 3-4.

In other nonconference men’s basketball:

Cypress 96, Occidental JV 67--With four players in double figures, Cypress dominated throughout the game.

Jason Krauss had 17 points to lead the Chargers (4-2) and Paul Pappas and Jeff Rutter each had three three-pointers. Ryan Dodd and Paul Lindemeyer each had six rebounds for Cypress.

Fullerton 75, El Camino 67--Guard Scott Davis made three three-pointers and scored 19 points to lead Fullerton. David Wilson, who had 11 rebounds, scored 17 points for the Hornets. Antwane Sholes had 16 points for El Camino.

Grossmont 79, Golden West 74--Dennis Ryan had 26 points and Rod Scheuerman had 14 for Golden West (1-2). Peter Dual had 18 points to lead Grossmont.

In nonconference women’s basketball:

Cypress 63, El Camino 58--Holly Pawlowski, who was 12 of 22 from the field, had 28 points and nine rebounds to lead Cypress (2-2). Linda Rodriguez had 10 points and four steals for the Chargers. Sonya Hudson scored 13 points for El Camino (1-3).

Southwestern 91, Golden West 77--Golden West was no match for Southwestern, which had six players in double figures. Blythe Lindsey, formerly of Calvary Chapel, and Nancy Love each had 18 points for Golden West (1-3). Alejandra Hernandez had 23 points to lead Southwestern.
