Next ‘Amgen’ Can Still Be Found

* I enjoyed your well-researched story about Amgen on Nov. 12. I lived in the housing tract next to Amgen from 1979 and have followed this star’s progress ever since.

It is amazing that so many people are quoted as saying that the city has changed and is more cosmopolitan now than it was a decade ago. The building boom stopped five to seven years ago, and we are behind cities like Ventura and Santa Monica, which have welcomed new coffee shops and bookstores for a few years now.

The next Amgen can still be brought here, as the Northrop property is still going begging. Despite my pleas, the City Council has not made this a priority and instead is pursuing the Adventist mega-project. We should remember the main reason that Amgen came here and continues to stay is our quality of life.
