Cal State Northridge held Columbia to three baskets in the second half but still lost, 49-46, in a nonconference women’s basketball game Friday night in New York.

The Matadors (0-1) helped Columbia (1-0) snap a 35-game losing streak while extending their own Division I losing streak to 31 games.

The Matadors fell behind, 35-23, at halftime before limiting the Lions to 14 points on three-for-26 shooting in the second half, but it wasn’t enough as the Matadors made only four of 10 free throws in the second half. They were 11 of 20 from the line in the game.
