Raabe’s Pension Bid Is a Disgrace

* Re “Raabe Seeking Stress-Related O.C. Pension” (Nov. 15): I happen to find this both amusing and sickening. While many of us must find a way to deal with the many rigors of life and society in general, people like Mr. Raabe (and [former Treasurer Robert L.] Citron) choose to be cowards instead and not only make excuses for their ineptness but then have the gall to seek damages in the form of income from the taxpayer.

I think it is high time that people like Raabe (and Citron) be accountable and be held responsible for their actions.

* [First] came Robert Citron, claiming he was demented for four years before his bad investment strategy led to Orange County’s bankruptcy. That period of time includes the years when he was making more money for the county than other treasurers with similar funds. It also just about covers his last two campaigns for reelection. Now comes Matthew Raabe, claiming 1) to be entitled to his old job back; and 2) to be totally disabled by his previous work under the demented Mr. Citron and, therefore, entitled to lifetime disability payments. Are these people, perhaps, unclear on the concept?

Or are we on the threshold of a new scientific breakthrough? If being caught at malfeasance is an aid to medical diagnosis, physicians have a new strategy available to them.
