Toshiba Establishes New Desktop Device Division

Toshiba America Information Systems Inc., subsidiary of the Japanese computer manufacturer, said Monday it has established a new division to design products that enable people to control copiers, fax machines and other office equipment from their desktop computers.

The “document solutions” division will employ 20 people at the company’s Irvine headquarters.

Shunki Yatsunami, president of the U.S. subsidiary, said the company chose to establish the new division in Irvine partly “to take advantage of the excellent software engineering resources available here.”

Toshiba America Information Systems, which employs 1,170 people in Orange County, reported sales of $2.6 billion last year.
